Additional rent

Charges beyond base rent that the lease treats as rent for enforcement purposes.

Definition

Additional rent covers things like CAM, insurance, and taxes on a commercial lease, or utilities and pet rent on a residential lease. Because they're treated as rent, non-payment triggers the same enforcement path as base rent.

Example

A tenant's monthly bill is $2,000 base + $200 additional rent for CAM = $2,200 total rent.
